Edwards, Colo. • September 18, 2007 – The Dusty Boot Steakhouse & Saloon in Beaver Creek, Colo. will donate 50 percent of their sales from October 3 - 7, 2007 to The Heuga Center for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) during its Dine Out for MS fundraising event.  To participate in Dine Out for MS and help people and families living with MS, families and friends can eat lunch or dinner from 11:00 a.m. to 11 p.m. at The Dusty Boot Steakhouse & Saloon any days from October 3 - 7.

“A very close friend of mine was diagnosed with MS,” said John Shipp, Dusty Boot owner.   “She’s a wife and mother so I’ve witnessed how this disease affects the entire family.   With support from our customers and community, we bring health and hope to people and families living with MS through The Heuga Center’s CAN DO program.”

“Dine Out for MS has raised over $32,000 since starting in 2005,” said Brian Hutchinson, president of The Heuga Center.  “That money directly impacts our ability to provide scholarships for people with MS and their support partner to attend our five-day CAN DO program.  And it has a local impact.  Our most recent CAN DO program this past May in Vail, Colo. included three couples from Eagle and Summit Counties.”

MS is the most common neurological disease among young adults between the ages of 20 and 40.  It is an unpredictable disease that attacks the central nervous system.  Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs or more severe, like paralysis or loss of vision.  The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot be predicted.

The Heuga Center's CAN DO program takes a whole-person approach to managing MS.  Participants and support partners become fully involved in creating a personal lifestyle program based on specific needs and goals. The program empowers people to focus on what they can do by emphasizing general health, physical fitness and psychological well-being. It teaches individualized lifestyle strategies that include exercise, nutrition, self-management, social interaction and support.  The extensive component for support partners addresses their individual needs and concerns and educates them about the disease.  The Center’s five-day CAN DO program takes place in Vail, Colo. Oct. 3 – 7, 2007, the same dates as the Dine Out for MS.

The Dusty Boot Steakhouse & Saloon is located at St. James Place in Beaver Creek Village.  For more information about Dine Out for MS, contact The Heuga Center at 970-926-1290 or info@heuga.org, or visit www.heuga.org.
